The organization of the Grandvalira Speed Skiing World Cup has decided to suspend the event, which was scheduled between March 11 and 15. The snowfalls in recent days in Andorra have left the Grandvalira Resorts in optimal conditions for skiing, but precisely the arrival area of the Riberal slope, where the races were to take place, does not reach the minimum thickness required to ensure the safety of the athletes. Despite all the efforts made by the ground teams in recent days to prepare the arrival area, where skiers must make strong stops after reaching speeds of up to nearly 200 km/h, the organization has been forced to cancel the event.

The Riberal slope, the speed track

The Riberal slope, located in the Grau Roig sector, has a total length of 1,000 m, a braking zone of 450 m, and a maximum slope of 74%. The course starts at over 2,500 m altitude and has a vertical drop of 200 m, to which the 10 m of the tower installed as the starting point must be added. With these technical characteristics, athletes can reach high speeds of around 200 km/h.
