The World Cup Finals get into full swing with La Fura dels Baus

The mobile macro-show “The Road to the Finals” brought together more than a thousand people in Andorra’s commercial centre, with members of the ski clubs as protagonists

This Saturday afternoon, in the shopping zone that connects Escaldes-Engordany and Andorra la Vella more than a thousand people enjoyed the mobile macro-show “The Way to the Finals”, starring the prestigious theatre company La Fura dels Baus. The event was a great way to start up the engines and to encourage ski lovers to attend the Alpine Ski World Cup Finals 2023 that will start this Monday in the Grandvalira ski area.

The party began in the plaza Coprínceps (Co-princes Square) with energy provided by the fusion-percussion group Brincadeira, which set the pace for a parade that relived the trajectory that the ski station, Grandvalira, has followed over the last decade on the World Cup circuit. In this way, after reminding us of the first competition in 2012 in Co-princes Square and the second competition in 2016 in front of the Illa Carlemany shopping centre, a colossal giant from La Fura dels Baus, made an impressive appearance, representing humanity. This reminded us of the celebration of the first World Cup Finals in 2019 in the Plaza de Meritxell (Meritxell Square). The procession continued to the plaza de la Rotonda (Roundabout Square), where the final climax took place, the welcoming of the 2023 Finals in the form of another spectacular structure from La Fura dels Baus: a large hourglass that symbolised the end of the countdown to the celebration of this major sporting event.

The event recreated the atmosphere that we will experience between the 11th and 19th of March at the World Cup Finals Andorra 2023 and gave everyone there the chance to feel like the stars of the party, especially the children and young people from the country’s ski clubs, who were the special guests.
