There are so many different types of trips that you can plan in Andorra, and that of course includes Andorra cycling holidays. In recent years, cycling in Andorra has become increasingly popular thanks to the ever-expanding Andorra cycling map. There are now more Andorra cycling climbs and routes than ever in the principality, combining thrilling rides for the most adventurous alongside flatter runs for beginners and families. Whether you’re passionate about road cycling, mountain biking, BMX or e-bikes, there is something for you in this part of the Pyrenees.
What are the different types of Andorra cycling holidays?
As mentioned above, there are many different types of Andorra cycling holidays. The most popular is road cycling, as the microstate is the perfect place for finding steep and challenging climbs on well-maintained roads in the middle of breathtaking scenery. Even though the country measures in at just 468 square kilometres, it boasts 65 peaks of over 2,000 metres, so it is a road cyclist’s paradise.
However, the Andorra cycling scene is about much more than road cycling, especially in recent years. One of the most popular activities these days is to pay a visit to the Bike Park Andorra Pal Arinsal, where sustainable e-bikes in Andorra open up all kinds of possibilities.
Pal Arinsal Bike Park Andorra: What does the e-bike Andorra cycling map look like?
The Pal Arinsal resort was recently incorporated into Grandvalira and this has opened up a whole host of new opportunities for visitors to the country, especially cycling fans. That’s because the most popular bike park Andorra has to offer is the Pal Arinsal Bike Park, located in the parish of La Massana. This is one of Europe’s leading mountain biking areas, while it also has e-bike Andorra cycling routes.
It’s important to note, when looking at the Andorra cycling map, that Pal Arinsal is split into a couple of different sections, as Pal and Arinsal are separate locations, even if they’re close together. E-biking in Andorra is possible at both of them, with the Arinsal sector centred around a climb up to the Xalet Igloo restaurant, while Pal has several routes, spread across the plateau and Coll de la Botella sections of the Andorra cycling map.
Furthermore, as of the summer of 2023, several new Grandvalira e-bike trails are live, made up of 94 km of signposted e-bike routes. As part of this, there are e-bike trails in Soldeu, e-bike trails in Encamp, e-bike trails in Canillo and e-bike trails in Grau Roig, each of which is exciting in its own way.
There is simply incredible variety, with all different kinds of difficulties (green, blue, red and black) and with recharging points for e-bikes in the Pas de la Casa, Encamp, Grau Roig Canillo and Soldeu sectors.
Why do so many cyclists live in Andorra?
If you’re cycling Andorra while on a vacation, you’ll have plenty of space to go at your own pace but you won’t be alone. Not only will there be other tourists sharing the experience with you, but you may even see some professional cyclists pass by too.
Many professional cyclists live in Andorra because of the challenging Andorra cycling climbs and the fact that the country has a low cost of living, tax advantages and almost approximately 300 sunshine days per year. Several Grand Tour legends now call Andorra home because of these reasons, aware that few countries offer a better all-round cycling experience than the Pyrenean paradise.
